What a wonderful colourful jug. It was made in the Gothic style in a rich orange colour, which then has loads of gilding, a line of jade green, and there is even lime green and lilac painted on the scrolling dragon handle. Splendid.
It was made by the Hill Pottery of Staffordshire, England and has the mark JSH on the bottom for the years 1861 - 1867. There is a painted pattern number 9079 with a 7 below it and a 3 above it in a slightly different colour. There is also a small painted capital D, I think, elsewhere on the base, probably the painters mark.
The spoutless jug is in excellent condition. It has some minor rubbing of the gilding around the rim and one tiny speck of paint loss on the orange body (unnoticeable).
Height: 7" and approximately 5" at it's widest point.
